@puck61 You assume that everyone is guilty and lying? The innocent deserve protection. The victims deserve prosecution of the guilty, not the innocent.
And the design of our legal system requires that both guilty and innocent are defended appropriately, because in the (flawed) process it is essential that two sides of the argument are wrestled with. After all, police get it wrong for many reasons.

@Abstraction Of course not, but even a judge will often advise a defendant to plead 'not guilty'. It is 'procedure'.
