I personally wouldn't try at my age but that's up to the individual...I'd be too worried about the increased risks that come with that

@SecretMist it's not fair to the child
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@SecretMist There are many many older women who have perfectly healthy babies. There are many healthy young women who have babies that are not so healthy. Your thought process is skewed.

@SW-User If a woman's body is still able to have children an she hasn't gone through the menopause then it is perfect natural

I had my first and only child at 37. A childhood friend of mine announced she is pregnant with twins and she's 47 in April.

Not in the least.
No!!!!
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
If they are 60 and trying to have a kid I would say yes. They will start to have health problems as they age and raising a child while battling age related illnesses would be very stressful. However, there are those who are defacto parents to grandchildren as a result their kids being in jail, in a hospital or dead.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
@Longpatrol I personally know a couple in their 70’s raising a teenage grandson because his parents are drug addicts. An extremly admirable and dignified couple.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@Longpatrol getting older does not automatically mean you become ill and incapable. There have been a good number of older mothers who have actually become surrogates for their young daughters who have been unable to cary a child themselves. Perfectly healthy babies ..carried by women over 50.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
Maybe I shouldn’t have used the word “will” but you do have to admit it’s a high likelihood @JaggedLittlePill
When a doctor says your pregnancy is high risk because of your age I think it’s selfish.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@SecretMist high risk can be at any age for many reasons. Just because you are high risk doesn't mean you should not have kids
@JaggedLittlePill correct. So long as a child’s life is not put in jeopardy.
Raffie · 61-69, F
No..if her health is not in jeopardy and she has the means to support the child, it is her decision, as it was my right to choose not to have children.
ProdigalSummer · F
Some of the best moms I know are older moms. They had their first children in their late 30’s to early 40’s.
MrAboo · 36-40, M
Guess I really don’t care about the world enough to judge some on that premise
No1UNo · 26-30, F
Depends on why they're getting pregnant. If it's to trap a guy into supporting them, then yeah. That's selfish. But if it's because they want a baby, then it's awesome and not a bit selfish!
Itsjustme · 26-30, F
If she takes care of herself and van manage a baby, then it's not selfish at all.
Butterflykisses24 · 51-55, F
no why would it be.

SW-User
nope.. older women tend to be more stable. more responsible.
I don't think it's selfish. I understand the want to have a child. Children are wonderful gifts. But, personally, I wouldn't try for a child as an older woman. I need to think about my own health, but also about my child, and how it would effect his or her life.
BlueRain · 51-55, F
Over 35 is a high risk pregnancy. Is it fair to put a child through that? Of course so many good mothers are well over 35 but that’s not the point.
Serenitree · F
@BlueRain Yes it is the point. Young women miscarry. Young women have children who are born with health problems. Young women have babies and might get killed on the way to work someday. Check the stats. Young people are not immune to high risk pregnancies.
It's much more selfish of anyone at any age, to get pregnant and drink, smoke, use drugs, etc, yet they do it, and most of the ones doing that aren't the older women.

BlueRain · 51-55, F
@Serenitree i’m just talking about the facts. You are correct.
Why would it be selfish?
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
No, if the women is still within her child bearing years, then why would it be selfish?
suppose it'd depend on the reasoning behind it. for many it's a fluke and they weren't expecting it at all.

Fernie · F
what age do you think is "older?"
BlueRain · 51-55, F
The older a women is, the older the eggs are. Chances increase to the heath of the child. Adoption is better.
BondGirl84 · 36-40, F
why is it selfish? its only selfish when any women of any age tricks her partner into having a child like coming off the pill without telling him or... i dunno poking holes in the condom!

SW-User
Of course not, that's what sex is for in case people forgot that
BabyLonia · F
when you say older women....how much older?
what about older fathers then?
