There is a difference between subjective truth and objective truth.

"Your own truth" is subjective. "Truth" is objective.

You can "believe" the earth is flat, but that doesn't actually make it flat for everyone else.

Um, when facts are involved, all of this goes out the window.

@SW-User That's the funny thing about facts. They often support more than one angle. Facts can and are misinterpreted all the time.
SW-User
Okay, for perspective, there are facts that support the Earth is NOT flat. There are no facts that support it is. Facts don't usually support a "gray area".
@quietlitany

Good to hear

Even facts themselves are truly subjective

@SW-User Not all facts come into our possession known and understood, hence the scientific fields, but philosophically, facts can and do present puzzles at times or 'gray areas'. This is why we have phrases like 'misrepresenting the facts', 'misunderstanding the fact', or my favorite 'spuriousness'.

What is the square root of negative 2?

Does that mean math does not work?
SW-User
@questionWeaver No, it doesn't. I'm not saying all facts have come to light, I'm saying that a lot of things can be definitive.

@questionWeaver I liked this example my professor in research methods gave:

Homicide increases with ice cream sales. There was a correlation. Turns out for that study, there was a third factor, which was heat. The hotter it gets, the more crime that tends to increase. Ice cream sales also increase during the heat. All facts, but say different things depending on how you're looking at them.

@quietlitany Philosophy isn't really looked upon for facts, but merely trying to answer questions. Granted, those questions can themselves be subjective. Lots of things can be, I'm saying to not disregard those facts though. And I appreciate this discussion!
SW-User
@quietlitany Why do crimes increase with heat?
quietlitany · 36-40, M
@SW-User It is actually. Some things can't be measured, such as human emotion and interaction, so it's needed to define governments. Plato's ideas on Truth also discuss this, a realm above understanding. This is what my pic was getting at, a different way of looking at facts, understanding what is subjective and what is objective. If you just want to talk science, my stuff will eventually have nothing to offer.

@quietlitany I like the conversation though.

@SW-User The folks who looked into that social phenomena have come to understand people are out of their houses more, interacting with society, getting angry, impatient with the increased amount of people and temperature, so more opportunities for crime, premeditated or otherwise occur.
