Do you believe in destiny?

Then why do we have choices? I still don't get the idea of predetermined destiny.

hi blueumbrella
I do not know what to believe in. I conclude reality is definitely stranger than we can envisage. Regarding choice I see no conflict with destiny. We plainly have the appearance of choice but also have an unconscious mind which plainly makes many choices for us anyway. So destiny and choice - or the appearance of choice to us - are not incompatible. Also nobody actually knows which way entropy even flows.
That matters because if Time flows backwards to how we perceive it then what we call destiny becomes memory.

@sogdianrock Makes sense about having the unconscious mind that makes many decisions for us. Thank you, sogdianrock. :)

hi blueumbrella
well thank you for an interesting question. Also it is a very important one.
What do you think of the idea of time flowing the other way? What we see experience as destiny would then actually be memory which is what destiny has that deja vu feel?

@sogdianrock yes, if time would flow backwards, destiny would be memory. But then we don't have choices over memory, we can't erase them. Destiny seems like the flow of life and time together, but then our choices don't seem real enough. What difference would choices make? And I especially wonder about small everyday choices, like choosing tea over coffee. Does these small choices have any ripple effect or not? I'm so confused about everything!

hi blueumbrella
well you in exactly the appropriate state of mind then.
The trick is not to panic about being confused about everything.
People jump to conclusions and these are inevitably always wrong and then they fight wars about which stupid idea is correct or even worse which God.
Regarding the direction of flow of entropy there is no way of knowing what it is. We cannot tell because we are inside of Time. We know it exists but we cannot know that of it.
I think we have choice over tea or coffee. We are allowed small choices to allow us the perception of choice. Big things though are not choices although we think they are.
Sure we have choices over memory. Humans are highly selective at what they remember.
You should read Alice in Wonderland. The author was a professor of logic and invented logic gates which are the basis for computing.
