what is transgenderism

and how come it's happening now in our times, all these people who are transgender....this never went on in the 60s, 70s or 80s when i was young...why now?

Well im 45 and i knew when i was 9 i did not want to be a guy. It has always been around but now people are more open to talk about what they are feeling. Things were bad for trans people in the past. Its a different kinda bad today where there are states attacking our right to be who we are by making laws to restrict or deny care. Also its possible that u never knew what was going on back then since it was not something u had to focus on.
