what is transgenderism
and how come it's happening now in our times, all these people who are transgender....this never went on in the 60s, 70s or 80s when i was young...why now?

@ninalanyon I remember Renee Richards in the 1970s. My point is that it's been around a while. And of course, men dressing in drag probably goes back centuries, as does women passing as male. Supposedly, the Revolutionary War hero Casimir Pulaski was intersex, and "rounded" to male as that gave him more options.

@greenknight According to SW you were born not earlier than 1973 so I'm not surprised that you didn't hear of it in the 70s. I'm even less surprised that you didn't notice it in the 60s!
Most people who felt as though they didn't fit were unable to talk about it, there were no, or at least very few, visible support organizations. It wasn't until 1967 that sex between men 21 and older was decriminalised in England and Wales. In Scotland this didn't happen until 1980 and in Northern Ireland 1982. So you can imagine that coming out as transgender would be even more difficult for most of us.
What's the law in the Isle of Man, and when did it become trans and gay friendly?

@greenknight I think we've always had the same percentage of trans people. The difference is that now they're not at as much risk of being murdered as they were in the past, so more of them feel safe to come out.

@LeopoldBloom Sadly they are with the ever growing hate there is right now.
But before this hate started blowing up like this we were living our life the same as the rest of the people in this world and we learned that we were not as hated as we always feared before this.
Then someone decided to use hate against us to gain political wins and to put all horrid crimes on us instead of the ones that actually does them.
So once again we are at risk for murder and once again suicide is growing out of that fear and out of the hate we again have to take daily (as on the bird app) sadly

@JohanGabriel The bigots don't want to hear about it. They want to go back to the old days when LGBT stayed in the closet, and the bigots could make believe that they didn't exist.
