The 'peepee' is a uniquely north-American thing, as far as I can tell. I've also only heard American adults use the term when talking to their children, although I have to admit that I don't have tremendous experience of talking to American men about penises!
In the UK, words like 'willy' and 'winkle' and various similar words are used to describe the penis when talking to children. 'Willy', however, is not a child-specific term, it is one of the most common slang term for a penis in conversations of many kinds across all age groups.
You wouldn't, therefore, find it strange to hear an adult in an adult conversation refer to a 'willy', because it is common, but a man who used the word 'winkle' would seem strange to most Brits, it would make him seem immature. I imagine I would fee the same if an American adult male referred to his 'peepee' in general conversation.
