To other LGBTQs: How do you cope with homophobes?

I personally often get anxious from just thinking if a certain person might be homo- or transphobic or against any LGBTQs. Anyone else?

I'm not LGBTQ, but I tend to feel a bit anxious that people might be homophobic or transphobic. It seems so backward and ignorant.

@AwesomeEmoDragon: It still disturbs me that a friend of mine that I thought was a good guy (and who has suffered hate for his ethnicity) made uncalled for comments about a transsexual colleague of mine. It's a nasty surprise to find hate lurking in people you trust.

@AwesomeEmoDragon: Yeah, that's what I don't understand. If you're exposed to hate, surely you know how it feels, and then don't do it to others.
