I get a little annoyed when people assume I’m heterosexual

To be fair, most of the world’s population is straight. But it gets pretty irritating when I explained I’m pansexual and what that means. But when people you know who you’ve explained this too assume you will end up with another boyfriend. I just want to give a look that says remember our conversation? Yes it is a possibility but not a definite ( even if I wanted another romantic partner which right now I don’t) . I know no one means anything by it but thinking I’ll automatically default to a heterosexual relationship again is a little presumptuous. Questions like from my grandparents if I’m texting a boyfriend at times. My parents automatically assume it would be a man when I say sometimes maybe I could marry someone kind, gentle, and wealthy to help provide for me. They said I don’t want to be dependent on some man who might abuse me or control me if I’m dependent on him. My grandfather teases me that he could find me a boyfriend in Europe. My mental health outreach worker after I explained about my ex boyfriend but also explained I’m pansexual may have forgotten that conversation and said with my 34 birthday there was much to celebrate about life and maybe someday I would find another boyfriend to love. Even my friend assumed I would be with a man but then tacked on or go lesbian relationship if you wish. I have to keep reminding people I’m a queer woman. And in society it seems heterosexuality is assumed until said otherwise. I can’t tell you how many times I have met people and they find out I’m single and say I think I would know a nice young man for you. I think because I present very feminine the assumption is I’m heterosexual. Geez… it’s not exactly homophobia but more assumed heteronormativity is the default. I can be with anyone male, female, intersex( like me) trans and androgynous/ gender nuetral/non-binary people. But when I explain I’m not straight I usually get apologies for assuming and add ons like from my grandparents or parents or is it a girlfriend I might end up with. Most people don’t understand gender neutrality as a gender or androgyny. My aunt asked me if I like football and I said I’m not really a sports person. She asked me last year not even to see men in tights with their nice butts. I realize most people around me mean no disrespect but come on folks it’s 2026. Please stop assuming my sexual/romantic orientation. And female friends in the past automatically assumed I was just interested in men. Granted I don’t assume anyone is into me unless they say outright. I don’t hit on my friends as that’s a breach of trust and of them feeling secure and safe. And my past male friends assumed I was only into men and two of them tried to make a pass at me sneakily. Some friends. Also they knew I was in a relationship. Even if I was single, you don’t make a pass at me. You might tell me how you feel and be honest and say outright you would like to pursue a romantic relationship with me but leave the ball in my court to accept or decline. And I didn’t appreciate my so called male friends tried to put ideas in my head and make me break up with my boyfriend when I had one. That’s just shitty behavior. When I’m friends with someone I assume it’s platonic. I just wanted to vent.

They assume you're a normal healthy woman. That other stuff belongs burried in a closet. You should keep that to yourself.
