No, I understand biology.
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123 Gender is a social and cultural concept rather than a biological one
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy Well, my understanding is that there are two biological sexes: male and female. These are biological absolutes and not social constructs because they can be determined to absolute accuracy even before birth. The English word for a juvenile male is ‘boy’. A juvenile female is ‘girl’. An adult male is ‘man’ and an adult female is ‘woman’.

So what exactly is gender then? Because if it is a social construct, it had nothing to do with being male, female, boy, girl, man or woman. And it should therefore have no bearing on female only spaces and sports as these are determined by biological difference.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@TheGreatestEver123 It's a social construct and most languages have at least three genders: female, male and neuter. People who act like the neuter gender doesn't exist are ridiculous, so much more that they use it all the time.
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123 Well there is the biological sex binary even though not even that is a binary because intersex people exist for example.

Ever heard of gender roles? Ascribed norms based on ones sex or the term gender expression, like how people dress/are supposed to dress. These are all cultural and social constructs that have changed and keep changing and vary by culture.
How a woman is supposed to behave, how girls and boys are treated... are all constructed
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy the presence of intersex people does not invalidate binary sex. These people are rare but they have some biological characteristics of both sexes. It is not a third sex. In any case, most intersex people manifest comfortably in the world as either male or female.

Of course there are gender roles based on cultural norms and traditions etc but this has nothing to do with actually being a man or woman. If a man engages in a stereotypically female gender role, he is still a man. And it still doesn’t answer the question as to how there can be more than two genders.
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@CrazyMusicLover but the neutral gender is for either inanimate objects or where the gender is not known (in English, the neutral used to be ‘he’ until political correctness changed it.

@TheGreatestEver123
political correctness
Is just a synonym for human decency that has been weaponized in the political discourse
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123
but this has nothing to do with actually being a man or woman
Fundamentally the way being male or female is being lived and expressed is what matters. You could say gender is the expression of characteristics ascribed to sex but that wouldn't cover the term entirely
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy there is nothing noble, decent or moral about political correctness. It is a disease that at best is just silliness but at worst destroys our society.
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123 You sound just like the men in the past who saw women wearing pants as the end of civilised society. You are Utterly ridiculous
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123 like how dare pc people tell me I should not use terms such as "fag"
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy just not true. ‘Male’ and ‘female’ are biological terms. They apply to all animals. And it is biology that matters. Sports are separated by biology because men are stronger, faster, bigger than women. That’s why we have a women’s category. How one ‘identifies’ is meaningless because it is not mapped onto biological truth.
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy who ever said that and how on earth does that apply to anything I said? You are making wild false equivalences and logical fallacies because you are incapable of thinking.
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123 wtf why do you keep bringing up sports. Also the biology argument has been used for centuries to justify partriarchal systems and the oppression of women
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123 PC regulates the way political discourses are lead. Social consequences for people that use the term "fag" was just an example
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy Now you just sound like the bleating left wing propaganda machine. I bet I could accurately predict everything you believe about most subjects. That should really concern a freethinking person.

There is no patriarchy. Men are and have been just as oppressed as women for centuries. It’s more left wing propaganda.
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy and then PC goes too far and tells us we have to ignore biological reality to spare peoples hurt feelings.
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123 Political alignments tend to happen due to shared values. I am a communist so lots of infighting with more right leaning leftists.

Examples?
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123
A 2019 review in Neuropsychopharmacology found that among transgender individuals meeting diagnostic criteria for gender dysphoria, "cortical thickness, gray matter volume, white matter microstructure, structural connectivity, and corpus callosum shape have been found to be more similar to cisgender control subjects of the same gender compared with those of the same natal sex."
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy 99% of soldiers who die in wars are men. 98% of prisoners are men. 95% of homeless people are men. Men do 99% of all dangerous manual Labour, offshore oil rig work. They die on building sites every day. If there was a patriarchy, why wouldn’t we send women to do these jobs and die as a result?

Women and children were spared on the Titanic where most of the men sacrificed themselves.
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123 all due to patrarchal systems and still nothing compared to the systemic oppression, sexual violence and stripping of rights women had to endure.
Men were still in positions of power
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy 1. Where was that review from and who conducted it?
2. It doesn’t actually prove or provide evidence for anything except that there are some people who suffer from a mental illness and it may be identifiable in the brain. Which is actually evidence that they are deluded so it proves my point anyway.
TheGreatestEver123 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy millions of men were sent to die in wars because of the patriarchy? Are you a fucking moron?
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123 Yes you could have send women to war too like armies in modern times did. There have been female warriors and war in itself is an outlet of aggression which is fostered in men from birth.
Also you ignore that even though man had certain hardhips they ended up receiving rewards and higher social standings compared to women.
Gloomy · F
@TheGreatestEver123 Gender Dysphoria is a mental health issue and the psychiatric community agrees that transitioning is the best way to treat it
