Paul O'Grady/Lilly Savage RIP

Waking up to sad news today, sweeties..

The passing of the wonderful, delightful Paul O'Grady, at the tender age of 67. Rather unexpectedly, apparently.

Paul started out as a drag queen on the circuit and, as Lilly Savage, created such an iconic character. Before my time, of course, but became mainstream in TV shows like 'The New Statesman' and 'Brookside' and finally part of the evening schedule as a presenter of all manner of shows, like 'Blankety Blank', 'The Big Breakfast', 'Blind Date' etc.

Waaaaaaaay before 'RuPaul's Drag Race' (this was the late 80's), Paul - as Lilly - was THE face of the LGBT+ community in the UK....

In the early 2000's, Paul decided to shake off his Lilly character somewhat and mainly appear as himself. Putting over to the public, his love of animals, Paul's 'For The Love Of Dogs' became a huge success. He also ran his own chat show, demonstrating his comedy timing and background.

We loved Paul/Lilly, growing up in our house, going out and buying the DVD's of his series and watching endless Youtube vids over the years. She always had me in stitches.

Love to you, sweetie, and your family and friends. Back with Cilla, honey. Thanks for the entertainment over the years. Thanks for the inspiration. Forever a star...
