As a heterosexual, pride month triggers every fiber of my being
Where's straight month?!
Jk lol

@deadgerbil it’s sort of the other 11.

@deadgerbil I just came across of a post telling people to boycott Zoom because it's celebrating Pride month and mentioning zoom alternatives. I am just annoyed at the stupidity of others I'm so freaking done. There's more serious shit to worry about in the world.

@JustGoneNow ikr. It's just like when it comes to black history month. So many other people get angry and say "wHaT AbOUt wHiTE hIsTOrY???" even though 99% of history has been told from a white perspective
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether I save my righteous outrage for outrageous things, such as sex slavery, pedophilia, and war. Whose club is having a birthday, doesn’t even make the list.
@deadgerbil exactly. It’s about taking a little time to celebrate a marginalized group. I just don’t see where that’s controversial.

@deadgerbil You should start a gerbils month. 🐭

@PiecingBabyFaceTogether gerbils are banned in places like California. We need to rise up

@JustGoneNow For me "it" (someone else's display of irrational pride about their sexual preference) gets 'controversial' if/when:
1. "It" is being thrust at me, intruding into my personal space.
2. Someone's trying to dictate to me, how I should feel about "it".
3. I'm expected to revere a flag in which I have no personal interest.

@Really I take no issue with any of those except partly the first one.
No one should dictate another’s feelings period. Pride is about my feelings and others like me. Has nothing to do with anything else.
Again pride and flags are important to those of us in the marginalized group. It literally has nothing to do with anyone else. Same as two… no one should dictate someone else’s feelings period.
Okay, so that’s the easy stuff. Now let’s unpack the first one.
If you mean public gay sex, I agree. Any public sex including hetero should not be pushed on unwilling audiences. However, this type of statement and statements like it, have often meant that you don’t want to be exposed to anything about someone’s orientation that makes you feel uncomfortable… and we need to just go back in the closet. Almost my entire life I’ve had to be exposed to heteronormative PDA, such as kissing, hand holding, hugging of opposite sex partners and seen no representation of my own or people like me. If it’s wrong, then it’s all wrong. I don’t want to be exposed to Jimmy and Susie’s Mum and Da and their simple expressions of love any more than you do my girlfriend and I’s. However, I don’t mind either.
This may not be where you were going with this comment but it definitely needs clarification as it has been used as a dog whistle for passive aggressive hate.

@Really I’ve got a post I made a while back that kinda gets into that, so speak your peace… but if anyone says it’s okay for one orientation to show their affections and not the other, it’s called bigotry. Period. Be safe and be well. ☮️
