How and when did you come out

I made a post like this last year and some really good conversations came from it. So posting it again. And I’ll share my story this time.

I was 23 when I came out to my parents. I told my mom first and she cried, but said she already knew. She seemed upset, but not mad. She said she loved me and told me I needed to tell my Dad. I was really nervous about that because in a lot of ways my Dad had been my best friend since I was a little girl. His response, and I quote “I don’t care who you like or date or whatever, as long as they’re not Giants fans I’m sure I’ll love them.” Lol.

Awww....

I think I was, like, 13 and being the dork that I am (and I still don't know why I did it) but I sidled up to my mum one day (there was just her and me at home that day) and asked her if I could try on one of her spangly dresses!

...we went to the wardrobe and I picked it out.

She spoke to dad later that evening and then we all had one of those chats. Some time later I felt comfortable coming downstairs in a dress, - I'd already dress upstairs - and learning all about makeup and more feminine things, that made it a bit more embarrassing for me.

But, that was the start of it all.

Love the Giants fan part. With my dad it would be Raiders fan

I came out to my parents last year and both were surprisingly acceptable. Definitely easier than I thought it would be

@KateSoldana when I told my Dad he almost seemed annoyed that I was crying and thought he would think it’s a big deal. Lol.
