How old were you when you came out of the closet?

If you never came out, how old were you when you realized you were LGBT?

52! I'd known as long as I can remember, though.

WOW! Why the long wait? Surely you had some friends or SOME body to confide in?

@TheDarkestZero: Yes, my twin sister figured it out in our early teens. I confided in her a lot growing up. Then, I had quite a few experiences when I was single, but all on the down low. I talked about it with a few partners, but played straight (for the most part) even through marriage........

@Milkweed: Oh wow. I've had a few friends who have known I was gay from the moment we met. I didn't even need to come out to them. When I did tell them years after we met, they told me they already knew and then I just felt silly. Then I publically dated a guy, soon the entire school knew.

@TheDarkestZero: What's crazy is lots of people suspected I was gay, but when I came out, acted completely shocked! ???? But several said they'd always known.

@Milkweed: Haha cool. You never really realize it but a lot of people could pick up every little detail, ever little hint, and know you're gay before even you figure it out. My mom and my aunt were like telling everyone in the family I was gay just because I was a pretty feminine-acting five year old.

I get that! My grandmothers, God rest them, had totally opposite views. One was convinced that homosexuality was a form of demonic possession! The other would take me aside and say, "It's okay if you're like that. I know other people who have what you have."! She even tried to fix me up with a neighbor's son! So, I always had one foot out of the closet!

@Milkweed: Oh wow haha that's cool! My entire life since I was like 10, my mom always asked me if I had a girlfriend yet, and then would later follow that with "or do you have a boyfriend yet?" And I was always confused why she would ask that; one, because I was TEN years old, and two at the time I didn't even know being gay was a thing so I had no idea why she was asking about a "boyfriend".
