Reconnecting after a long time

When I came out as gay and all that, via a requested letter from my mom and the man she was dating, they told me they expected all my things to be gone when they got back from their trip to walmart. The next day I woke up to all my savings, around 5,000, taken from my account, by a joint account I had with my mom. I had just turned 19.

It's been 6 years now. I haven't made contact with either parent, honestly anyone in my family, since. I wonder how I might begin to open up having a conversation after that. Was I cruel to cut my mom out of my life like that? I feel like I was justified, if the situation were reversed she wouldn't be willing to go through what I did. Has anyone else reconnected with a parent after bad blood?

Did your mom take the money because she wanted to or was it the new boyfriends idea, I can say that your mom is probably afraid of growing old alone and has done things to keep a man in her life. My mother married someone I couldn't stand because of something like that. I'm older now and I can see how she might would feel like that. When you want to talk to her just talk about anything that pops up.

@Justiceforall At the time, I had assumed it was because she knew I was using it for hormones, I thought she thought if I had no other choice I'd come back and do whatever she wanted. My mom married a guy hoping I was his kid and waited 15 years to tell him otherwise, I know her feelings and relationships aren't simple.
