Did you ever save someone from a cat phishing scheme? If so, tell me what happened.

Bc I just saved someone and I’m shocked this person was even falling for it for even a second.

My brother when he asked me to borrow money. I am the type to not lend money unless I don't care if I get repaid - that way it doesn't ruin relationships. But part of that is asking what it is being used for. Car broke down? Sure. Pet needs to go to the vet? I got you. Need to buy a collector's edition figurine from online? Yeah, no that's not going to do it.

But anyways, he started telling me it was to send to this girl he met online and I can't even remember what the excuse was. He'd never met her. They had been talking for like a week. I had to break it to him that he was getting scammed.

@ViciDraco nerds get scammed easily. He must be one.

@Miram I'd say he is more in the emo camp. We're both susceptible to seeking validation and acceptance from women as a result of our mother dieing when we were fairly young followed by bonding to women our father would date only for them to leave. That plants a seed of vulnerability to be exploited. I just happened to be terminally online and had heard all kinds of horror stories previously. Also, just being a few years older meant I joined the internet in an era where we were a lot more careful of each other online and required a little more verification from others.

@ViciDraco I am sorry for your loss.

I think everyone is vulnerable. We humans are fragile beings and we all seek validation. But yes, our childhoods determine how will that manifest, the degrees and the nature of the vulnerability.

I have always had a blind spot when dealing with people who seem vulnerable from a position of helping. Even more so when it is women because I lost my sister in the war.
