Do you get sucked into customer reward programs or see them for the scam they are?

So many people can't understand that they are a scam! Just a legal one.

My mother hates them and I do too. They're a ploy to steal your personal data and then sell it. If you've ever signed up for a customer reward program chances are you've experienced an increase in robocalls, spam in your inbox, fraudulent texts, and even misleading advertisements both in your mailbox and while using the internet. This is not a coincidence, when this happens it means stores saved whatever personal info you used to sign up and then turned around to sell it to data brokers.

I am not sure what kind of programs you have in mind.

I benefit from two reward programs.

At a local grocery chain, I earn discounts on fuel purchases by buying groceries. These are stores I would shop at anyway, and I do not go out of my way to buy anything I would not have bought otherwise when I shop there.

At one convenience store chain, I get a free burger after every 15 visits. Again, I do not go out of my way to shop there more than I would otherwise. It is a chain I would patronize even without the rewards.
So, let me get this straight...if I do nothing else for the rest of my life but spend money and copy receipts before the ink dries, I get a 5% off movie ticket? If I pay for shipping.

Dang. That's EXCELLENT.
the best scams are legal
