A New Telephone Scam….

This one is where they pretend they are from Customs & Border Patrol and that you have a package that needs to be delivered. They need more information such as your address to send the package. They will text message days before telling you they need more information because you have a package that needs to be delivered and it’s being held. I ignored 4 such messages in the past couple of weeks. So I get the call and they say where they are calling from and then transfer me to an agent. He asks me (in a very strong Indian accent) what my name is. I asked him what his name was. He said something smart-mouthed. And then asks me for my name & address. I won’t repeat what I told him before hanging up. I figure they would pretend that there was a drug shipment going to my name & address and that they will threaten to arrest me if I don’t post bond in the form of a money order or gift cards or they will send officers to my home to arrest me. 😂

@4meAndyou yeah just putting it out here as a warning. I think someone who may not know the laws and how things are run here might get intimidated by these types of calls. They just keep getting more ludicrous with every new scam, a fat red flag. If something was illegal in a package how do they know my telephone number and not my address? 😂

@4meAndyou I know a Mexican man who said he knew a Mexican woman who got pulled in the virus-on-your-computer scam. They told her how much it would cost if they removed the virus and she used her debit card to pay them. They took everything she had far above the amount they mentioned out of her checking account, this was about 10 years ago. They knew how to scare her and get her to cooperate with what they were doing. This new scam is meant to intimidate those who don’t know any better.

@cherokeepatti ANYONE who cold calls ME is not getting my credit card number. AND I saved money this year by buying PCMatic. $50 per device which eliminates ransonware.

@4meAndyou I don’t even have a computer now and sometimes they try it, very rarely now because everyone knows about it. I tap around like I am opening up a computer and go along with it for awhile to waste their time, depending on how much time and patience I have. The boy found my air horn. I had apparently thrown it in the coat closet so I would not be blasting my ears any more. I could take it outside and use it on the phone to keep that from happening (need to tape my earplugs to it)….but the neighbors will be asking what the hell is going on.

@cherokeepatti My dad was quite elderly and would talk to anyone that came to the door or called on the phone. It really bothered me that he was so vulnerable to these types of people.
