Think you can't be scammed? Scammers are everywhere! Keep your eyes open.

I recent;y posted about my band playing that City Winery Philly show. There was a thread on Facebook where we listed the event. A few people were psyched about the show and posted.

On Sunday, someone posted "Hey, we have a bunch of tickets, but unfortunately can't go. I need to sell them, message me here".

Nice try...the show had happened already....on Friday!. Can you imagine? Scammers selling fake tickets to a 250 seat show? We know we're small potatoes in the larger scheme of things, but they prey on people not thinking of that.

The band is ticked off, too, because that damages our reputation. What are these scammers thinking? A couple hundred bucks if they sell a few tickets...maybe?

Be careful, everyone.

I remember a while back, my sister was telling me she had received a shady-looking offer for her and her band to perform with a deal that seemed incredibly generous, offering her and her band all gross potential ticket revenue for their gig.

Interesting offer considering my sister is no longer with her old band and hasn’t been since like 2014, lol. She’s just a solo singer now, but even if she wasn’t, her and her old band are both only locally famous and moderately, at best.

Why would anyone offer a relatively small-time band a deal ensuring they’d profit as if their show had sold out even if it didn’t? On top of that, it even doing their homework on my sister, lol. It just didn’t add up.

Sorry to hear you and your band got approached by a scam. This just shows that scammers who target local bands are very much out there.

@Ducky You were right to suspect something. Maybe as simple as a kickback, but if something smells that fishy, best to steer clear

I received a letter from a Nigerian banker / prince - he said that he found a lot of money and I can have it if I just send him 10000 for postage. Seems legit though.
