As was Apollo 8, in which Borman, Lovell, and Anders orbited the moon on Christmas Eve, and read from the book of Genesis as the cameras showed people on Earth the desolate lunar landscape passing by the capsule's window.
And as were Apollo 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16.
And as were all the lunar orbiters and landers that preceded the Apollo programs , sent by the U.S. and by the Soviet Union, and which sent back thousands of photos.
And as have been the more recent moon missions by China, Japan, Israel, and India.
