Do you have nieces or nephews or anyone that is next of kin? First of all, the laws are different in each state in the USA and I am not verrain if you are American or not. Government gets greedy if you die without specifying who your belongings should be left to so wills are important. You cannot count on outliving your parents so I would start with them and then have the lawyer include a provision as to who or what charity I would want my assets to be given. I would have wanted to live until 100 but my illnesses will get me long before then. I have my will set up and my memorial prepaid and my obituary written because I do not want my parents and loved ones to have to deal with it.

@Fungirlmmm thanks for your advice.

If you die intestate (without a will), your possessions will be inherited by any living relative you may have, or go to the Crown if there are none.

Who would you like your possessions to go to?

Best thing is to get a lawyer that handles trusts. Spells everything out. Can’t contest a trust.

YES!! but consider a trust. if you have a house or land and do it as soon as possible. Your belongings will go through probate if you are in the US and that costs.

All the major charities in the UK have free will-writing services (or will-writing services for free!) with no obligation to even leave a bequest to them.
