I almost wish they would outlaw the reference portion of criminal trials.

Like, I don't care that you were supremely NICE to the family of the little girl you were grooming. It should NOT be used to humanize a monster.

The mitigation part by the defence is often outrageous at best. "Yes, he murdered 5 women but he had a difficult upbringing and he's got cats to look after" 🤔

Making a sweeping decision about any part of the legal system that is an anomaly (this is not the norm or it would not make the news) I think is a worse idea. Cases like the examples here are a tiny sample of the number of court cases every year and it is not like people are lining up to go to bat for serial rapists. That is the entire reason why cases like Danny Masterson are even worth publicizing in the first place.
