Jury duty In CA…

For about ten years I received a jury summons each year, and the process was the following: I called on the day indicated after 5:00 pm, entered my juror number and the recording told me whether or not to appear the following morning. If I wasn’t needed, I had to call at 11:00 am the next day to see if I was needed that afternoon. If not, I was excused and had satisfied my commitment. I wasn’t called since 2019, but now I received a summons and I’m committed to check in every day for a week ! What tf happened ? Is this how it’s done in other states ?

I've received a jury summons several times in my life, but never once each year. The first time I received one back in the 80's, it was when the world really had turned upside down, in my little 'nuclear' family. I was excused.
Twice when I've received a summons here in this county, I've gone through the whole showing up process and talk the group of potential jurors are given. Both times, I went back at the designated time just to be told that something had happened and all potential jurors were no longer needed. As I recall, we were told we'd receive a call if no longer needed.

Anyway....I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get an extension. I hope you'll be able to do something, so this won't interfere with your plans to spend time with your dad on his birthday.
