Jury duty In CA…

For about ten years I received a jury summons each year, and the process was the following: I called on the day indicated after 5:00 pm, entered my juror number and the recording told me whether or not to appear the following morning. If I wasn’t needed, I had to call at 11:00 am the next day to see if I was needed that afternoon. If not, I was excused and had satisfied my commitment. I wasn’t called since 2019, but now I received a summons and I’m committed to check in every day for a week ! What tf happened ? Is this how it’s done in other states ?

In my jurisdiction, you go on the list for a year. You get notified about upcoming potential appearances and need to check if required. Used to be a single call up but now changed. I'm currently on the list and potentially on duty next week. I've wanted to do jury duty for years and now, hopefully, I'll get the chance.
@Bushranger The timing for me is bad. I would’ve gotten an extension had I known I was committed for the whole week.

@bijouxbroussard Do you have a legitimate reason to be excused? If not, try to think of something that would get you out of it.
@Bushranger My father’s birthday is this week, he’ll be 90. I still intend to go, but I’ll just have to cut my visit short, if I’m selected. First I’ll see if I have any other options.
