We can solve problems of mass shootings and school shootings! Just implementing some smart ideas!

There were 632 mass shootings in the USA 2023, There was 1 in UK.

1. A wait period and background check before every gun purchase.
2. Guns sold at police stations only.
3. Age 21, like the drinking age.
4. A physical exam
5. Abolish assault weapons.

and act like the gun is a car...
1. You must have a license to use it.
2. You have to register it
3. If you sell it you must file the paperwork and transfer ownership
4. Have insurance on it
5. Lord help you if your gun was used in a crime and you did not report it stolen.

@Lisa82 a car is not mentioned anywhere in second amendment

@Patriot96 I have it pulled up....
1. Are the people well regulated? (please define regulated)
a. Supervised by who? ohhhh the ones who will register it probably the (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives)
2. Cars were not around in 1791
3. Guns in 1791 could fire (if you were good) a round a minute.
@Lisa82 Actually, the prefatory clause of the 2A says that the militia is to be well regulated for the purpose of maintaining a free state. In this case, trained means ready for war. However...the militia being well regulated is not conditional upon, not a prerequisite to the operative clause that the People's right to keep and bear arms is not to be infringed.

The automobile reference is irrelevant, as is the argument that guns should be controlled by the gov't like a car.

By 1791, several firearms had been invented that could fire at a much higher rate. The founders understood that technology would advance and firearms would become more efficient.

@BizSuitStacy one of the problems with crimes is that the guns are not registered nor there's no record on who purchased them. People who obey the law should not have a problem registering guns.
@Lisa82 people who are law abiding have plenty to be concerned about...it's call confiscation. People love the "cars need to be registered" as the analogy. But the purpose of registering a car is to apply taxes to pay for public roads. What purpose does a gun registry serve?
Lisa82 · 41-45, F
@BizSuitStacy when in history has guns been confiscated? 🤣😂 I have all my guns registered. I don't worry at all. I know a lot of paranoid people who keep telling me that, but heck not a single gun during the Obama Administration was confiscated.
@Lisa82 I asked you first. What purpose does a gun registry serve?
Lisa82 · 41-45, F
@BizSuitStacy links crime with the owner. Owner should be able explain what happen to their gun.
Lisa82 · 41-45, F
@BizSuitStacy honestly I don't know why we're talking... You and I have a side and nothing will change your mind and neither am I.
@Lisa82 Nope. That's the function of the ATF to trace guns used in crime. And the vast majority of firearms are acquired illegally, anyway. Try again.
Lisa82 · 41-45, F
@BizSuitStacy boy your very respectful...
And the mass of guns out there were made leagly and just got passed around and flooded market because of lobbying and corrupt politicians.
@Lisa82 I honestly don't quite understand your last comment, but...

Whether you realize it or not, you're just repeating the same anti-gun narratives I've been hearing for the last 40 years. I've heard 'em all, multiple times. But there are simple facts that blow up every single one of those arguments.

The facts in the next few paragraphs come from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report database.

The number of legally owned firearms in the US has roughly doubled since 1993, but the firearm homicide today is about half it was at that time. More guns, less crime. Now, I'm not saying the additional firearms caused the decline, but they certainly didn't cause an increase.

90% of all firearm homicides are committed by a felon. The average number of felonies they have is 4. The vast majority of killers have a violent history. Merely being in possession of a firearm is already illegal and enough to put them back in prison. Do you really think a gun registry is going to stop them? Or getting a firearm license? They can't even pass the background check to buy one legally.

The typical gun recovered from a crime scene is stolen, and on average, was stolen 11 years prior the crime. That's assuming they can determine the serial number.

Lots of ghost guns out there too...firearms without a serial number at all. Many of those come from overseas.

90% of all firearm homicides occur in the inner cities where gangs and drugs are prevalent.

90% of all firearm homicides are committed with handguns. They're easy to conceal. The dreaded "assault weapon" the media's fear porn, accounts for less than 1% of the murders.

The founding fathers were students of history. And they knew authoritarian governments had an ugly tendency to disarm their citizens. Plenty of examples prior to 1791, and plenty of examples afterward. It's never happened in the US because it's unconstitutional. Not that there are politicians out there who would confiscate firearms in the US given the opportunity.

My favorite quote in favor of the 2A. Please think about this:

@BizSuitStacy I'm not saying ban guns. I don't want that... I have lots of guns.
