We can solve problems of mass shootings and school shootings! Just implementing some smart ideas!

There were 632 mass shootings in the USA 2023, There was 1 in UK.

1. A wait period and background check before every gun purchase.
2. Guns sold at police stations only.
3. Age 21, like the drinking age.
4. A physical exam
5. Abolish assault weapons.

1. Part of the plan for whack job losers who want to shoot up a church or school becomes to buy their gun a week in advance. As far as a background check, anyone who legally buys a firearm since 1993 has submitted to a background check.(Part of the Brady Bill signed into law by Bill Clinton.)

2. I wouldn't have a problem picking up a firearm at the police station, but I think their time would be better spent apprehending criminals than dealing with people legally purchasing a product.

3. It is already 21 for handguns, 18 for rifles and shotguns.

The latest mass shooting attempt, by a person already deemed to have mental issues and several felony arrests including firearms violations. I don't oppose keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, but laws already on the books should have kept this person in Houston from purchasing a firearm, in fact, she should have already been incarcerated.

@Carazaa It really chaps my fanny when a background check is professed to be the answer to gun crimes. There has been a background check for every firearm bought from a dealer for over 30 years. There are also rules for private sales as well. I would have a lot less heartburn with people who want more gun control if they actually had their facts straight.

@Roadsterrider There was no background check in the last uvalde Texas school shooting. A kid bought the gun 30 minutes before and he had problems in many areas before. If we should be able to buy a gun there needs to be a thoughout back ground check by the local police, State police, and FBI, and no problems with mental health, depression, anxiety, fighting in school, truancy, dropping out of highschool, anger management problems etc. None of that was checked. He had numerous problems in the past but no background check.

@Carazaa He purchased the rifle he used from a licensed dealer so he either passed a background check federally mandated or the dealer committed a felony. The background was mandated in the Brady Bill signed into law in 1993. Most gun shops won't even ring up a purchase until the background check is approved. He bought his rifles on 17 and 20 May, right after his birthday, not 30 minutes before the shooting. He did pass the background check. then on the 24th of May, he perpetrated his crime. He wasn't a kid, he was 18 years old. You may not agree with his passing a background check, but he did. The ammunition he had was purchased a week before he bought the rifle. If there had been a waiting period, he would have included that into his plan for premeditated murder. Criminals need to be held accountable for their actions regardless of mental state or what kind of childhood they had. The shooter in Houston a few days ago was stopped by two men who were carrying concealed, both off duty law enforcement. These shooters go to churches and schools looking for victims, not for a fight. There have been at least 2 instances of shooters showing up at churches in Texas and being shot by armed citizens with few or no people shot other than the person there to commit a crime.

@Roadsterrider ummm not if you buy it at a legal gun show.
@Lisa82 not true. All FFLs must run a background check on gun sales - gun show or not. In the case of private sales at a gun show, some states require the background check, others don't. And the number of crimes committed with firearms that fall into the "gun show loophole" you are referencing is miniscule.

@Lisa82 that just isn't the case

@Lisa82 If you buy from a licensed dealer, the dealer has to have an approved background check before he can sell a firearm or he is breaking federal law. A private individual can sell a firearm without a background check, laws vary, the state I live in, a receipt of the sale must be kept for 10 years.
