We can solve problems of mass shootings and school shootings! Just implementing some smart ideas!

There were 632 mass shootings in the USA 2023, There was 1 in UK.

1. A wait period and background check before every gun purchase.
2. Guns sold at police stations only.
3. Age 21, like the drinking age.
4. A physical exam
5. Abolish assault weapons.

Much of that is already in place, except for cops selling guns. The job of law enforcement is simply that... enforce the law. Not become arms dealers.

-There is no waiting period for many mass shooters who bought their guns the morning of the shooting!
- And many were not even 21!
@Carazaa notice I said...much of that is in place. I'm aware of the gun laws in the US, and that they vary by state. In my state of Washington, everything you asked for, sans police becoming arms dealers, is already in place. Mandatory background checks on all sales and transfers of ownership (the exception being inheritance of a firearm), waiting periods of 10 days, and a minimum age of 21 to purchase. We've had those laws here for a while. And guess what? Firearm related violent crime has gone up dramatically. Shootings used to be rare where I lived. Now it's a common occurrence.

Now...I'm not blaming the gun laws. The real issue is leftist backed district attorneys who refuse to prosecute criminals. But these gun laws aren't making the public safer.

As for registration...it serves absolutely no legitimate purpose, other than make it easier for the gov't to confiscate firearms.

Many criminals want to go to jail or be shot by police because they simply are suicidal and they do not care at all about any death penalty or prison sentence.

I have spoken to people who do crimes, many
do crimes so they can go to jail. Its better than being homeless for them.
We need to pay for a nice room for homeless and that would help crimes a lot and be a lot cheaper than prisons! Some cities have solved the crime, drug, and homeless problems.

Give the police authority to arrest homeless who are mentally ill or drug addicts and for the judges to put them in treatment with social workers for a year, then give them their own room to live in with continued support groups and social workers to check on them.
That together with smart gun regulations would take care of a lot of crime, drug use, mental illness, and homelessness, and be a lot cheaper than prison and decrease mass shootings.
@Carazaa I think you're a kind person with your heart in the right place. Homelessness is a separate issue from gun violence, so let's not "mix metaphors" if you will.

The mass shooting epidemic is fairly recent in our history. Columbine (1999) was a turning point. Not that there weren't any mass shootings prior to Columbine, but they were exceedingly rare. So what changed?

It wasn't because of too many guns. There were already close to 300 million legally owned guns in the country by that point. If the number of guns was the issue, the mass shooting epidemic would have reared it's ugly head long ago.

It's not the type of guns either. Contrary to the leftwing narrative, the majority of mass shootings (60%) are committed with handguns. They tend to be cases of domestic violence or gang related violence, and tend NOT to be particularly news worthy. And for those who like to point to the AR-15 as the culprit, I'll remind them that that particular firearm has been available to the public since 1963...36 years before the epidemic began. I'll also point out that the Virginia Tech shooting, the worst school shooting in history, was carried out by a nutcase with a 9mm pistol and (17) ten round magazines.

Mass shooters all look for a gun free zone, and a captive group of people confined to a given area, or a huge group of people in a large area where they just randomly shoot into the crowd.

These people are mentally ill, and probably radicalized in many cases. No gun law will ever solve that issue.
