With a gun. That's what they won't fix.

@Roundandroundwego a red flag system in this case would have helped I think. But it still doesn’t catch all the troubled people that have mental issues. We need to get the mentally ill more help. Banning guns isn’t going to solve our problem. Bad people will always find ways to get guns. Just if you ban guns the honest people that choose to defend themselves if they need to can’t. We need to work on some things in our society. We need to be harder on crime, a red flag system on gun purchases of some type, we need to get more support for the mentally ill etc.

@specman i see no one pointing out that if this specific weapon, type of weapon, was not available, these sort of mass killings would not occur!!
specman · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 that weapon would have to exist. Our law enforcement uses them and they would still arrive from other countries on the black market.

@specman How many other countries have the number of mass murders with these sort of weapons? Why would law enforcement need these weapons, and why would a ban on purchase by the general public influence whether law enforcement could possess them? The murderer in this situation was able to purchase these weapons "legally." Why would she have needed them, why would any random citizen need one, let alone 2 as in her case? The original version of the weapon used was originally designed as a combat weapon. It was specifically designed to have greater killing capacity on the battle field. The projectile produced by this weapon, and others of its class, causes amazing damage to the human body when it hits, producing almost irreparable damage to human tissue. What justification can anyone have for owning one?

@samueltyler2 I use mine for deer hunting and hog hunting. The recoil feels good! Nothing like shooting a assault rifle. Some people are into some things and not others. Car accidents kill more people than people shot with guns. Should we ban them too! We banned drugs and made them illegal to use and you see how that works people still get them if they want them bad enough. People with mental illness are mass shooters. I say we need to be focused more on getting people the help they need. The progressive cultural movements nowadays are causing mass confusion, controversy and violence. That has to have adverse affects on people.

@specman You are using the same, spurious, defense of assault-style weapons used by the NRA. When I was younger, I learned to shoot with either a rifle or a shotgun, I didn't need a weapon that can shoot as many bullets in such a short time, nor one that did so much damage. If you are such a poor shot that you need such semi-automatic weapons, then you need more work on a range to improve your skills.

I am posting this graph from the CDC, although i may assume that you may think the CDC is a far left, unscientific body. But, I challenge you to find a better source of information concerning this sort of thing:

@samueltyler2 it’s not that I’m a bad shot as it is fun to shoot.. I did not regurgitate the NRA on purpose. I just gave solutions. I would hate to see a ban on assault rifle’s when there are other steps that could be taken.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@specman i am sure it would be fun to shoot a grenade launcher, or a bazooka, but you do not find many people doing that. I found shooting a 22 long at a target was fun, I don't need to fire off as many rounds per second an AR can do. I certainly do not understand why you need to shred the animal you are hinting with that powerful a weapon.

At this point, i would agree to require all gun owners to prove they know how to properly use their weapons, have a way to securely secure them so they.can not be stolen, carry liability insurance on case their weapon results in personal injury
There must be a cross-state background check and perhaps some reasonable limit on number and type of weapon and ammunition one person should be able to purchase and or own. Why was the recent shooter legally allowed to own 7 firearms including 2 AR rifles?
specman · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 There isn’t a cap on the amount of guns you can own.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@specman did you only read the last paragraph?
I later d put steps that might reasonably decrease the amount of gun violence. I know there is no limit to the number of weapons one may accumulate, why is that,? That is one of the measures i said I would like to see. Why would anyone need a small arsenal? Don't answer "BlackBerry because" the 2 amendment doesn't prevent it, that is again an interpretation of the amendment I think most will it ave to admit is ridiculous.
specman · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 people collect different things. Some people collect guns.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@specman sure, but we do not allow people to collect other things. If they want to collect them, why not set up strict requirements for collectors. Not the least of which would be to render the weapon inoperable when stored, only operational at certain times and places.
specman · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 yeah that’s a thought that could be introduced. I keep my firearms pretty safe right now. The all have have trigger locks and cable locks on them while their stored. Well except one of my 9mm’s which I carry with me for protection.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@specman then you sound like a responsible gun owner. You should favor the safeguards i, and others are suggesting.
