Suspect in custody after deadly mass shooting at LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs

A 22-year-old gunman opened fire in a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, killing five people and leaving more than two dozen injured before he was subdued by "heroic" patrons and arrested by police who were on the scene within minutes, authorities said Sunday.

The violence is the sixth mass killing this month and comes in a year when the nation was shaken by the deaths of 21 in a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

This is terrible that someone can have access to a gun and just walk into a place and open fire and do so much damage. The motive isn’t clear but it’s speculated that the club was targeted because it’s a LGBTQ2s+ nightclub.

My thoughts go out to all the people that lost loved ones last night.

What are your thoughts?

It is horrible and worse, we have a huge section of the population backed by big dollars (gun lobbies) that absolutely refuse to even talk about legislation that contains firearms regulation.

It is stupid and I honestly don't know what to say other than maybe if those who refused to deal with it suffered lo9sses in a mass shooting they would wake the hell up.

@Ontheroad I just don’t understand how guns are more important than lives 😢

@iamonfire696 there is no simple answer. As much as any rational person would think it's a simple problem to resolve, it really isn't. It begins with the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which, as interpreted by the Supreme Court gives essentially everyone the right to purchase and own a firearm. To change the 2nd Amendment would require essentially a 75% approval of Congress and individual States, and it would take years and years (the process is complicated and a bit convoluted). For instance, the last Amendment to pass took something like 202 years to get final ratification. So there you go - just getting started in dealing with firearms regulation is very, very difficult.

@Ontheroad I think it needs to be changed. When that was written there wasn’t semi automatic guns but we know that won’t happen.

@iamonfire696 a majority of us think so as well, but a majority isn't enough. There is too much money at stake for gun lobbies and those supporting the industry to ever let that happen.

@Ontheroad Yes you are right about that unfortunately 😢
