What type of gun was used in the Chicago area shooting on July 4th?

I have heard the newscasters call it an "AR-15 style assault rifle" several times, but nothing more specific than that. Also, I heard Kamala Harris refer to the "military grade weapons," used in mass shootings, but I question her definition.

The AR-15 is not an assault rifle per the US army definition, and there is no agreed upon definition for "military grade." These are catch phrases used by gun grabbing hoplophobes to scare the public. The technology behind a semi-automatic firearms is more than 130 years old and dates back to at least 1891. If the problem with mass shootings was the gun, the epidemic would have manifested itself long before Columbine (1999).
