What type of gun was used in the Chicago area shooting on July 4th?
I have heard the newscasters call it an "AR-15 style assault rifle" several times, but nothing more specific than that. Also, I heard Kamala Harris refer to the "military grade weapons," used in mass shootings, but I question her definition.

I am firmly in favor of gun laws and controls but still support the right to bear arms.
But long before Kamala Harris, at least one news article described a .308 rifle as a "military rifle."
Back in my long-ago deer hunting days, I carried a very pretty .308 I got for my 29th birthday built by my late father-in-law, who was a gunsmith. It was more or less considered a "girl's gun," and held six shells.
Yes, it could and did kill deer and could certainly have killed people.
The trick has to be keeping guns out of the hands of the arguably insane and out of the hands of youngsters whose brains have not fully developed.
@Mamapolo2016 Yes, a .308 is a popular caliber for deer hunting. I don't have a problem with an eighteen-year-old being able to buy a rifle. After all, many US soldiers are issued them at that age.
@Mamapolo2016I question the last bullet point, no pun intended. If the median age of shooters was 16, quite a few had to be younger than 16, I would think. So, I question the last point.
@Mamapolo2016Well, they have lied to us before. "Remember the Maine!" "He kept us out of war." Vietnam. "I did NOT have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. Not one time."
