In some way, many Americans seem to get their nut in these tragedies.
A pregnant 10 year old is just an angel showing us God’s gift of life. And those dead in mass shootings are just angels showing us the price of freedom.
Or we flip and foam at the mouth about what a whore the 10 year old was. What suckers to be shot at a parade without defending yourself in return.
Or the cultural war just burns hotter. Each tragedy is just fuel for each side of every narrative.
What seems to be missing is always basic humanity. A pregnant 10 year old. Take that in. Sit with it. Vomit, cry, scream, plot bloody murder our revenge. And she has to give birth. Repeat the visceral revulsion. Same I with any tragedy. Your people cut down in the streets.
We package that shit away because we can desensitize and move on with our narratives. Or we let ourselves access just part for social and political combat fuel.
We’re becoming sub human. We can connect with the grief of this less and less. It’s all meta.
