How Republicans react to mass shootings seems to depend on the race or religion of the shooter.

The Trump administration pointed to the 2015 mass shooting in San Bernardino to justify the President’s order to ban US immigration from seven Muslim-majority nations. An entire ban. 14 were killed (and neither of the attackers in the shooting would have been affected by the new ban).

But after the Buffalo shooting, the House voted 222-203 for a bill to expand the federal government’s resources to investigate, track and respond to domestic terrorism. Only one Republican voted in favor. It will surely die in the Senate.

Please note, in 2021, terrorists killed 30 people in the U.S. — 28 were victims of right-wing attacks, according to a separate database maintained by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, which has tracked domestic terror since 1994.

They typically note that when a non-white shooter commits a mass shooting that the news media (most of them anyways) bury the story, won't mention (for the most part) their race or even political affiliation if they are connected to leftist political group(s). They, the same Republicans you have highlighted, tend also to notice that the story is dropped if the weapon isn't one of those evil semi-automatic ones made to look all scary and tactical. Those stories are usually brushed aside, forgotten and dismissed quite quickly in most media outlets. This also has been noticed about fiery but mostly peaceful protests that destroy businesses, homes, injure and occasionally kill someone? All that it takes for a gunman, a weapons incident or a very violent riot to get dismissed by, and to receive just the right rose-colored glasses treatment is the political affiliation of the members or individual involved. In the case of the weapons, if it doesn't fit the narrative, it's not fit to print. These have been noticed by millions on the right and in the center. It's also been noticed that these incidents are not "rare" either. But you wouldn't know that if you watched mainstream media (TV,movies and news) now would you?

@Fukfacewillie - "How Republicans react to mass shootings seems to depend on the race or religion of the shooter." It was related. I just showed the flip side of the bias coin on that one. Not accusing you of bias just showing the generalized bias from the left as you showed the same from the right.

@Yetti I appreciate the point, and would respond that the reaction to mass shootings based on race and a ban on a religion should be dealt with differently than the issue of bias in the media. Perhaps to some the bias of CNN and the NY Times is worse, or the same, and as you might expect, I would disagree.

Often when GOP is in office they announce the political party affiliation of the shooter before they even have a positive ID, that is if the shooter is not a Republican.

The SPLC uses very fuzzy logic to define what is right and left wing. Garbage in, garbage out. Since the SPLC is a sponsor of terrorism, we can expect them to be inaccurate.
