Why are people against gun ownership?

Mass shootings occur because of bullying and social isolation, wouldn't it be better to address that instead of trying to restrict gun ownership?

US gun crime is essentially most prevalent in socio-economically deprived areas, mass shootings are related to the prevalence of guns. Making basic guns/rifles look like something GI Joe would use, doesn't help.
@SW-User But why don't people question *why* mass shootings occur? Semi automatics/rifles are merely the tool used, but they aren't the primary cause.
@everythingisalreadytakenagain You should teach your kids not to play with matches, but you still shouldn't leave them lying around, especially when they're young.
@MistyCee Of course, but this doesn't address my contention regarding bullying and social isolation in American schools. Invariably all of the teens who commit mass murder are social outcasts.
@everythingisalreadytakenagain Well, Melania is on charge of stopping bullying.
