Does free speech exist in USA? Can you say what you want?

Yes, we do. Just because we can say whatever we want doesn’t mean we alway should though. People forget that there are repercussions to their words, especially when spoken in cruelty or hate. Just because we can say something, doesn’t always mean it’s appropriate to say them. People have lost their penchant for discernment.
@Pinkstarburst is hate speech allowed?
@Zenbra Sadly, yes. That’s one of the problems with free speech. As long as a person is not losing their other rights, people hide behind their misguided use of the First Amendment to inflict cruelty on others.

@Pinkstarburst You can't have free speech without hate speech being allowed. Hate speech is necessarily allowed. But I see it as advertisement from the speaker that he or she is informing me about being an ass.
@Lucia I view that as an opinion. To do that removes the power the speaker believes they hold over me. Words are just words until they illicit a response back.

I have an issue with the way people define hate speech. Hate is a powerful word and lives when we feed it.

@Pinkstarburst Even if we exclude hate and harassments there's still no free speech. If you are politically in a minority or have an unpopular (but perfectly valid) point you still risk being silenced /rejected/ judged / discriminated

@Pinkstarburst Free as in no punishment? No. Definitely no.

@Pinkstarburst Freedom of speech doesn't exist anywhere. It's a term but realistically all countries have their rules and norms and if you don't stay within those frames, you will be bad treated no matter what your opinion is. It's the human way. Anything controversial is met with rejection at first.

@Pinkstarburst Was it hurting anyone to advocate that women should have a right to vote? Yet how long did it take til that was finally accepted as the new norm?

There's millions of examples that proves my point. Are you just gonna ignore that? Then aren't you doing exactly what you claim people don't?

@Pinkstarburst Are you not aware what happened to Martin Luther King on your own American street? He wasn't hurting anyone, he wasn't harassing anyone. He was encouraging US to become better, to help the helpless. Yet he was shot dead.

@Pinkstarburst Except you have no arguments other than "I disagree" so you're not credible.

@Pinkstarburst Eleanor Roosevelt made a law that everyone is allowed to freedom of speech. But it's been manipulated by the government the second something criticise the US government or current rules/law's.

So even though her intention was freedom of speech. It never worked as a concept.

@Pinkstarburst I don't have to live in America to know the laws there.

I'm not talking about hate speech? The topic is freedom of speech and whether not it exists in US.

If you tell a stranger you don't care and they can't impact your sleep, you have already proved the opposite lol.

@Pinkstarburst I have no need to take anything personally. It was just a debate and you lost the argument. A bit dissapointing as I hoped for a good debate instead of talking about your feelings, but that's ok. I hope you'll be alright.
