What free speech people fail to understand is...

you can say whatever you want but not everywhere... if you come to our house and talk shit about my family you will ge kicked out. same with twitter or other platforms... you have no right to be there... its a privilege.
you can say whatever you want on 4chan or apparently here too... but you have no right to say whatever you want at every place.

When the platform becomes a public forum, deciding what speech is acceptable is wrong. I’m amazed people don’t understand such a simple concept.

@carpediem it is not a public forum though.. its a business owned by private people
carpediem · 61-69, M
@EvilEmma wrong. It’s a public forum. Funny, now that it’s owned by an individual the supporters of censorship are going crazy.
EvilEmma · F
@carpediem is it owned by the state or is it owned by stockholders ? answer that and you know if its public or it its private..

@EvilEmma here’s an idea. For just a moment, ignore your personal biases and look into the past. The oil industry was owned by individuals and became a monopoly. The communication industry, electrical power, distribution, and others were all on by individuals and became monopolistic..

Social media has protections that are unwarranted. They have become monopolies no different than some of those companies I mention above. Censorship is wrong. To live in a free society people need to have free speech.

@carpediem thats the nature of capitalist societies.. everything you can earn money with eventualy becomes a monopoly... thats why there is control by the goverment needed (but you kno thats socialism.....)

in this case noones gonna stop you to learn to code and write your own platform and buy servers to support that platform. you dont even have to rely on limited resources... you just need some knowhow and investors... so its really easy compared to starting an oil company. there is really no restrictions hindering you to do that.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@EvilEmma Wow. I must apologize, are you 12 years old? You’re also able to go out purchase land and drill for your own oil, refine it to fill your gas tank..

In this case, the communication is done over the Internet, created by the US government.

I get it you’re a communist. That’s OK. I believe in free speech and I believe people who are against it all wrong. Dead wrong.
EvilEmma · F
@carpediem i didnt say its impossible to buy your own oil field and drilling.. i just said that its much easier to learn to code and put up some servers... well apparently not for you since you cant even understand simple sentences.

and i am absolutely for free speech...but i do also belive in the right to not have to listen to people yell nonsense. so if you think you can force people to read your nonsense instead of turning you off then you didnt understand that before you have freedom of any kind you first have to respect the freedom of others.

Social media has protections that are unwarranted.

That was very interesting point! I agree. The internet is still very new and people haven’t figured out all the laws we should have surrounding it just yet. I hope freedom of speech becomes one.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@EvilEmma what are you whining about kid? I told you being a communist is ok with me. Freedom remember? Kid, you have no clue what you’re talking about. Come back when you grow up.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@Reject Ultimately, those suppressing freedom of speech will fail. Too many people fought for far too long to have a small group of leftist screwballs remove our freedoms. In the meantime , expect nonsensical rants similar to the one we’re both responding to above.
