I’m deeply uncomfortable with the celebrity status murderers are given, what with TV shows and documentaries.

In the name of entertainment, the killer’s lives and motives are portrayed in detail, while their victims are trivialised. Their last moments, their suffering. The hurt and despair their death causes to their families. It all becomes a side note in a Netflix show.

Few things demonstrate the gap between myself and current society as this disgusting curiosity about the most vile people ever to have drawn breath.

When I’m Empress of Earth, which won’t be long now, it will stop.

It's a difficult one. Morally it would be much more just to know about the victims, yet from a human psychology aspect the killer is much more compelling. The fascination is in the extremes of human behaviour. It's not just that though, there is also a morbid fascination around being the victim. It's both trying to grasp how a human being could be so evil whilst also trying to imagine being the victim.

I agree entirely that the most prolific killers, or those who have committed the most high profile crimes, should be consigned to the rubbish bin of history. They should be denied all public attention as soon as they're dead or locked up. That's just not going to happen though because they bring guaranteed views and revenue.
