Can imagine a detective trying to find a thief

when the thief is the detective himself?

Kinda like pain. The more you try to get rid of it, the greater it becomes. The mind cant find a solution or afford to allow you to cuz it itself is part of the problem. 🤔

Yes, because I've watched the movie Memento. Though you have to really be into it and pay attention, otherwise you can quickly miss clues are there are a lot subtle ones, or they don't stay on the screen long.

Yes, especially mental pain.

As far as physical pain, one potential trick is to pinch yourself on a different part of your body, or give yourself small bits of pain. Because basically there is only one patch for pain, so if there are two different signal points, it's harder for the brain to focus on one single one which makes it easier to ignore.

Note, this physical pain trick doesn't always work, especially when it's something more serious, but when it's something more minor it can work at times for certain people at least.
