What is the Slovenia Age of Consent?

The Age of Consent in Slovenia is 15 years old. The age of consent is the minimum age at which an individual is considered legally old enough to consent to participation in sexual activity. Individuals aged 14 or younger in Slovenia are not legally able to consent to sexual activity, and such activity may result in prosecution for statutory rape or the equivalent local law.

Slovenia statutory rape law is violated when an individual has consensual sexual contact with a person under age 15, where there is a marked difference between their maturities.

Slovenia does not have a close-in-age exemption. Close in age exemptions, commonly known as "Romeo and Juliet laws" in the United States, are put in place to prevent the prosecution of individuals who engage in consensual sexual activity when both participants are significantly close in age to each other, and one or both partners are below the age of consent.

Because there is no close-in-age exemption in Slovenia, it is possible for two individuals both under the age of 15 who willingly engage in intercourse to both be prosecuted for statutory rape, although this is rare. Similarly, no protections are reserved for sexual relations in which one participant is a 14 year old and the second is a 15 or 16 year old.

Romeo and Juliet laws are very important. They exist for good reasons.
@Gloomy To add to what I said there you are right, my best friend got his
girlfriend pregnant at 16 and he was 18 at the time.

So some sleazy perverted middle aged pedophile man can sleep with a 15 year old? Great laws! 🤷‍♂️
@antonijamar So you think a 15 year old should sleep with an adult???? 🤨
@antonijamar I find that almost as disgusting. You're telling me you're okay with a 60-year-old sleeping with a 16-year-old?
@LordShadowfire Agreed, we're wrong in the UK too but OP appears to be defending this.
I find this concerning. Not so much the disturbingly low age of consent, but the idea that a 15-year-old could go to prison for having sex with a 14-year-old.

As I've previously mentioned elsewhere, I met a young man while I was in prison, who was 17 when he started seeing his girlfriend (16). The day he turned 18, her parents called the police and had him charged with 10 or so counts of statutory rape. He got the mandatory minimum sentence of 75 months.

That's why Romeo and Juliet laws are important.
