I Believe In Age Of Consent Reform

Such a tricky subject, given how different societies view this tricky subject.

Like for example the Age of Consent in Angola is 12 years old, in Japan it's 13, in Austria it's 14, and so on!

My point is I think it's a societal issue that a country must make based on it's own norms and traditions. I don't want to say anyone is right or anyone is wrong, but it is always healthy to debate these things regardless :)

I think the basic tensions are between the age at which hormones turn on v. when you can make good decisions.

It is now known that your frontal cortex doesn't complete it development until humans are around _24_...! This is important for making good decisions, and, with an admixture of new & unfamiliar hormones (& esp. the huge spike which teen boys get), it leads to dumb dumb dumb decisions...

But we generally have ages of consent at 16...though you can't form a contract until age 18, and drink until 21.

So you can choose to whom you give access to your body about 8 yrs before the seat of your decision-making is really ready for business....

This leads to 14 yr olds taking sexy selfies and sending them to a similarly-aged friend/romantic interest and--uh oh!--being charged with making, owning, and distributing kiddie porn.

At 16, you can generally choose your sex partner, but not appear in anything remotely porn-like. Or even sign a modeling contract.

Go figure.
