I don’t see how this was termed a justifiable shooting.
This was a misdemeanor shoplifting. The shoplifter wasn’t the child’s mother.
The mother lifted up her son to show that there was a baby in the car. The officer fired into the car, killing the child and wounding the other woman.
The officer claimed (almost certainly falsely) that the driver tried to hit him with the car—but the bullets entered through the side window; not the windshield.
The police department hasn’t released any body cam footage.
The officer should be suspended without pay and face trial.
If the officer is “innocent” then it should come out in a fair trial.
At the very least, the officer fired into a car that he knew had a child inside.
