Silly memory
This little memory just floated up in the window of the Magic 8 Ball in my brain.
In 1987, 39 years ago, Pennsylvania passed into law a mandatory seatbelt rule. Most of us were ticked off. What business was it of theirs?
The first day it was law, I was 36, and I stopped for coffee on the way to work. Back in the car and seatbelts not at all on my radar, I waited for an opening in traffic to pull onto the main road. Glancing across the road I saw a marked local police car waiting for the same reason. Our eyes met and my brain did that thing my brain does. Officer. Law. Wasn’t there something that makes that significant?”
Then it hit. Seatbelt! I reached up, yanked the belt far enough to latch, and fastened it. I made that “Oops. My bad” face,” and then it struck me funny and I grinned. The cop grinned too, made the “okay” sign and we pulled out in opposite directions.
The kind of pop-up memory that makes me wonder what ELSE is in there?
