I have mixed opinions

While I believe that there is police brutality especially towards minorities in the United States, I don’t think we should completely defund the police. Who would you call if you needed help? I mean yes people should learn self defense skills and how to fight but for people who don’t have those skills what then? And not all cops are corrupt. Some are actually decent. But then there are plenty that are corrupt. So I am of two minds on this topic. We have to ask ourselves why is there so much police brutality and excessive force towards black and brown people. I have seen a couple of police officers helping two black women with kids who got stranded back in my 20s. If there was no police wouldn’t crime spike? I don’t know…

Defunding doesn't mean abolishing the police, that's a scare tactic promoted by the right as part of their disinformation campaign. Defunding means removing PART of police funding that focuses on say, perpetrators with mental health issues. The money would be taken from the police budget and instead given to the medical departments who specialise in dealing with severe mental illness. Then they would deal with that specific incident INSTEAD of the police, who would be free to concentrate on actual police matters. The defunding goes hand in hand with police no longer having to deal with those issues that they aren't properly trained in. In other words, police would be relieved of certainly aspects of their workload and the money they would have spent on dealing with those issues would instead go to specialist departments who would then deal with it instead of the police.

There is absolutely no way that the world could function without some group or organization to enforce the laws. If there were no police it would be total anarchy. Everyone would need large caches of guns, houses would have to be fortresses and there would be groups of armed vigilantes roaming the streets. It wouldn't necessarily happen overnight, but it would eventually evolve into this. Yes, the police do need to be heavily monitored by an independent group, but we do need the police!!!

I don’t know. I’m not from the U.S., but it does make me cringe a bit seeing some of the police interactions over there. I wonder how the police is funded there? They do seem to be overly keen on dishing out fines for really minor offences, and escalating to the point of ridiculousness. Could be that it’s just the YouTube sensationalism of course. Have you been affected by this?

@Oneofthestormboys Or if not funding problems, training?

Defunding is the wrong word. Banning certain types of equipment? Absolutely.

Cuttings self defenses weapons back to a single action revolver and a shot gun? Dam rite.

Abolition of qualified immunity? Absolutely.

@Alabamarednek If you're only going to give them a service revolver then they will be more prone to use it. They should still have mace and Tasers, but should be well trained in the use of those weapons and when to actually use them!!!

@Rabbit420 i agree. They should also be constantly reminded that they are free to quite and can br replaced just like burger flippers, hammer swingers and truck drivers can.
You're incapable of rejecting anything violent. Always on the fence! Murkans are.
