An investigative reporter looks into Rankin County jail accused of widespread abuse in Mississippi
Basically there's a vest that they use for unruly inmates during court proceedings and they tested it on a man with an intellectual disability in order for him to get a coke. He didn't do anything to warrant it, the staff used him because he wanted a pop. He was in jail for a very small amount of cocaine for up to a year.
In this same jail, guards and staff gathered a group of inmates and made them enforcers where they could be allowed to play video games and get extra perks for beating up other inmates. They nicknamed them the blue wave after these enforcers were put in blue jumpsuits to identify them as enforcers.
The guards would also drag some inmates over to where there was no cameras and beat them. The officers would make a report but would lie about incidents so it would cover up why over 70 inmates had broken bones and bruises.
