I'm tired of this word "Woke"

Can someone please explain to me what you believe "Woke" is, and how it violates anyone's Constitution Rights, or violates the Constitution outright in it's ideas and expectations.

I'd really like to know. 🤷‍♂️

It's a term used to describe the collective identity politics obsessions with typically left wing aligned groups and individuals.

It has a negative connotation because of the word's association with leftist identity politics.

MAGA is the corresponding word that the left uses to describe right wing obsessions and it has a similar reputation but for different reasons.

I understand, but anyone can identify with any group they choose, only groups that want to violate other's rights are the groups we want to stop.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@calicuz Ok. So what groups are you referring to that we should stop?
calicuz · 56-60, M
@SumKindaMunster

Nazis, White Nationali$t$, Chri$tian Nationali$t$, ya know, the ones who threaten democracy.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@calicuz K. I can already see where this is going. While I certainly don't support any of the groups you identified, I am dubious that the existence of such groups "threaten democracy"

Do you believe in Free speech? Even if you don't agree or are offended by what is said?

No, I agree. Free Speech includes "Hate Speech" unfortunately.

1: No, I think doing that is wrong, but if their permits are in order, and a local government issues the permit, I don't see anyone being able to stop them.

2: Again, a permit is needed, but if they violate the law, and scream words that have been deemed "words that incite violence," then they need to be arrested.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@calicuz To clarify, you don't agree with the two example's beliefs or speech, but won't stop it unless its inciting violence?

If so, I agree.

How about a transgender person who insists on calling someone "cis-gendered" even though that person has stated they prefer to be referred to as male/he/him? Free speech or is someones rights being violated? Or something else?
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@SW-User Thanks, I read it. My rebuttal is that respect and tolerance are two way streets. I see a lot of concern and shaming about treating "woke" fairly and listening.

But as usual, what I don't see is a respect and tolerance in reverse.

Do you respect and have empathy for people you disagree with? If not, then why should we extend you the same courtesy?

@SumKindaMunster Well, you've already made up your mind about me, clearly, so we'll leave it at that. I was going to engage but no longer. Contact me again and you're blocked.

@SumKindaMunster That counts as contact.

Of course I have tolerance, unfortunately, those that take the side of "everything from the left must be wrong," never seem to be able to use their own words to put together a legitimate argument. All I hear is them repeating what they hear on the tv news and their political and religious leaders. I work with a guy that "claims" to be a Christian, and any time we talk politics or religion, I use more Scripture, as well as the Constitution, to back up my claims than he does. It makes me question whether he has read either one.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@calicuz So to be clear, you are referring to hypocrites. People who espouse certain beliefs and norms, but violate them all the time while pointing out others bad behavior.

That's not a Christian or right wing attitude. In fact, I was just blocked by a hypocrite on this very thread because she didn't like the rebuttal I gave after giving her the courtesy of reading something she asked me to read.

I'm sorry about your work mate. He doesn't sound like a quality person.

@SumKindaMunster

My coworker my be labeled a hypocrite, but i think on a regular basis, no one understands that we all have a voice to make our concerns heard. Demonizing or diminishing one another's opinions is not productive, and has led us to a breaking point.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@calicuz I respect your opinion, but not sure I agree. It's more than just listening to opinions and making our concerns heard. It's also recognizing that being correct is not always better than compromising and letting things go.

My opinion is that too many people believe they and their like minded social media contacts are correct about everything, and everyone else should just accept that and acquiesce.

We live in a political environment that strongly favors compromise and yet nobody is willing to give an inch. There are absolute workable compromises on so many of the issues that plague us.

But nobody wants to do that. We want to be morally right and wait around for others to come to our camp, not meet others even partially half way.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@SumKindaMunster

We are in 100% agreement in you last statement. No one want's to sit down and discuss issues anymore. Everyone wants to be right, and they want new laws to either make them right, or silence the opposing opinion. We need to get back to being a sensible nation.

Thank you my friend for your valuable input.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@calicuz Thanks for listening and being open to speaking to someone with whom you might disagree. Obviously I am not everyone's cup of tea, so respect for listening and engaging relevantly.

@SW-User That was a word salad that never made any clear points.

SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Diotrephes It was very one sided. Very shameful and scolding. Like speaking to children. Again, there was no counter point. No mention that perhaps as a "woke" person you should self reflect and really decide if the moment needs to be turned into a "lesson" from you to a person you think is wrong. No mention that other people's opinions are valid and maybe you agree to disagree in the moment. No mention of showing grace or tolerance for opinons you don't share. It's no wonder that shrill hypocrite blocked me and moved on.
