an increase in crime in my area, what can i do

there's been a surge in crime in my area, violent crime and antisocial behaviour......it can make one feel unsafe when you have to venture outside/....ive always minded my own business......but i have an anxiety disorder and fear going out in public.............im also settled in this area now, ive lived here 19 years now and are unable to move......plus there's no where to move too...........i am from england to mention.........what can i do?

@durinsBane1983 They are shockingly LOUD. If you feel threatened, the noise alone might frighten someone away who was trying to rob you.

@4meAndyou i don't feel that threatened, maybe i should of clarified better in the post...ive lived here 19 years and never had any problems, its just i saw a report in the local paper saying crime is increasing....there was a ram raid recently at a local jewelers....and antisocial behaviour is generally on the increase.

thanks for suggesting it to me though. also, what part of the states are you from? just out of interest.
