Desantis cracks down on Squatters in Florida

I hope all states will follow suit. But I'm sure Democrats will have a different narrative,
and tell us how bad of an Idea this is. It won't be fair to the professional con artists
that take over peoples homes.

It's for sure the POS liberal governors of NY and NJ won't be following DeSantis's example. They are rolling out the red carpet for invading criminals and terrorists, and giving the middle finger to American citizens. 😠

@sladejr Unfortunately, yes, and I don't have much hope of people coming to their senses and dumping the creep, either.
There have been more than a few nightmare stories for home owners in certain states.

@BizSuitStacy Yeah, it seems the squatters are very professional. They have forged deeds,
rental agreements, etc...

Under HB 621, a property owner can request law enforcement to immediately remove a squatter from their property if the following conditions are met:

The individual has unlawfully entered and remains on the property;

The individual has been directed to leave the property by the owner but has not done so;

The individual is not a current or former tenant in a legal dispute.

In Florida, it will be quick and simple to reclaim your home from squatters, avoiding costly delays, litigation, and missed rents.

HB 621 also creates harsh penalties for those engaged in squatting and for those who encourage squatting and teach others the scam. The bill makes it:

A first-degree misdemeanor for making a false statement in writing to obtain real property or for knowingly and willfully presenting a falsified document conveying property rights;
A second-degree felony for any person who unlawfully occupies or trespasses in a residential dwelling and who intentionally causes $1,000 or more in damages; and
A first-degree felony for knowingly advertising the sale or rent of a residential property without legal authority or ownership
@DogMan You would think forging a government document would be a lot more than just a misdomeanor.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 You would think so. I'm sure it would be if Trump did it. 🤣

DogMan · 61-69, M
There are now companies that help homeowners. They have the homeowners give THEM
a lease for the property, and they go to the house and enter the same way the squatters
enter, and show them the lease and make the squatters call the police. Now the squatters
have to prove their case.

Desantis is using common sense and not afraid to rock the boat. I hope he stays in politics.

@jshm2 Do you live in Florida? Can you post a copy of this form you speak of?

Where did you come up with this info? You must have some inside knowledge of
the inner workings of this new bill.

I would like to learn more, also.

Squatters deserve to be squatted in prison.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Hanginginthere Yeah, and prison would not require fake deeds, or fake rental agreements.
PleasurePunch · 100+
@Hanginginthere people who spit on the homeless need to be horsewhipped

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout False equivalency, they outlawed the mandatory quartering of troops specifically, not people in general.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 If we had a war in the U.S. I would welcome a number of military into
my house, to feed and quarter them. My dad was welcomed into homes and fed a few times
when he was in Italy in WWII. I remember him saying they had Rabbit Stew.
