Destroy the Prison Industrial Complex

The United States have one of the highest prison populations.
In both for profit and state prisons mentally ill people, addicts, desperate people, teenagers and frankly anyone who struggles and doesn’t fit neatly into society gets locked up, often under cruel conditions.
The prison industrial complex is a tool for oppression and should be torn down.

PIC abolition is a political vision with the goal of eliminating imprisonment, policing, and surveillance and creating lasting alternatives to punishment and imprisonment.

From where we are now, sometimes we can’t really imagine what abolition is going to look like. Abolition isn’t just about getting rid of buildings full of cages. It’s also about undoing the society we live in because the PIC both feeds on and maintains oppression and inequalities through punishment, violence, and controls millions of people. Because the PIC is not an isolated system, abolition is a broad strategy. An abolitionist vision means that we must build models today that can represent how we want to live in the future. It means developing practical strategies for taking small steps that move us toward making our dreams real and that lead us all to believe that things really could be different. It means living this vision in our daily lives.

You must live in a nice upper middle class area.

You are correct though on the failures of the private prison system and that it should not be there.

There are many interesting prison reform ideas but what do you propose?

@BritishFailedAesthetic Literally the whole concept.
@LordShadowfire Literally read again.

Used to be homeless but now I live in a middle class home.

Not only the private one the whole system is a failure
@RebelliousSpirit It needs reform and the concept of criminal records need to be looked into (unless for a sex crime on a minor or if it is relevant i.e. applying for a compliance job with a record of fraud).

But it feels you have not grasped the depravity of some people and that kind of system would not change them.
@BritishFailedAesthetic I bet i've met more so called depraved people in my life than you have
@RebelliousSpirit Given normal circumstances you probably would have done.

But I fucked my life big time- hung around with the wrong crowd of people and on top of that worked in a really questionable place that employed anyone and our job was to get people's bank details.

But I've mixed with everyone- one day it was lunch at a private members club courtesy of a company- before I knew it was grabbing lunch with a moped thief.

Now it's barely having enough to get by but that is typical of our generation.
@BritishFailedAesthetic
before I knew it was grabbing lunch with a moped thief.

There is nothing wrong or exceptional about that
@RebelliousSpirit Agreed, just saying my background to prove a point.

Isn't that called being in your twenties?
@LordShadowfire Yes, but particularly in my case- druggies amongst others. Still in touch with them!
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@BritishFailedAesthetic Druggies as in meth heads, heroin addicts, and such? Or do you use that word to describe stoners?
@LordShadowfire Heroin , crackheads and meth addicts- weed smokers are not druggies.
