Do countries that implement the death penalty only do it to their own citizens?

Why did I ask this question?
We don't have the death penalty in our country and I want to know if I can get this sentence if I go to a country where this penalty is applied and commit a crime. Excuse my curiosity and sorry if I said something wrong, English is not my native language

Yes, you commit a crime punishable by death in a country that has that penalty - it will be applied.

Has happened to a few Australians in Indonesia.

Imagine if it didn't work that way. Hitman travelling overseas would be an everyday event.
