Here Comes Santa Claus

The House Ways & Means Committee is now in possession of six years of former President Donald Trump’s tax returns after a three-year battle to obtain them.

The committee received the documents from the Treasury Department on Wednesday after the Supreme Court rejected Trump’s final appeal on Nov. 22, according to the Treasury Department.

“Treasury has complied with last week’s court decision,” a Treasury official said.

The receipt of Trump’s tax returns brings to a close a three-year legal fight that began when Ways & Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.) asked the Treasury Department to hand over the then-president’s tax returns under a law that allows congressional tax-writing committees to obtain tax returns for its investigations.

There will be a flurry of Committee reports coming out between now and 1/3 when the Republicans take control. The 1/6 Committee already has stated they will publish their report including all of the appendices of evidence and provide same to DOJ by the end of the year. Going to be too late to close the barndoor -- the horses will be out in the open.

@Northwest TV hearings presented only the tip of the iceberg, as staffers were complaining -- anonymously, of course -- to the Washington Post. The televised hearings admittedly focused on building the over-arching narrative of where the impetus for the events came from, but the committee has made clear the report will include all facets of their closed door hearings including the inadequate sharing of intelligence and preparations by law enforcement and the auxiliary involvement of others beyond Trump's immediate circle, including more detail on militant group preparations and actions as well as supportive actions of Congressional members. Researchers will be combing through all the evidence for decades just like the Warren Commission on JFK's Assassination, that attempted to gloss over too many questions in the name of national security. The Republican Party probably would have been better served if they had agreed to the original bi-partisan commission modeled on the 9/11 Commissioner, or if McCarthy hadn't refused to make reasonable appointments to the 1/6 Select Committee.

@dancingtongue It would have taken weeks of TV time to cover everything. The records should be released to the public digitally, and I think this is is the Plan.

@Northwest The press is lazy. That explains why trump still gets too much attention. The Republicans will launch lots of investigations. Lewinsky 2.0.
